. As a non-profit, we strive to make quality child care available to all working families and to those who also work part time and attend school. We provide services to families who pay privately, use state vouchers, and/or require scholarships.
Through fundraising and grant writing, we provide scholarships to families in need that are experiencing hardships such as illness, paycuts, furthering their education or those who are facing unanticipated circumstances..
Our program believes children should have fun, relax, be stimulated through learning opportunities, have a chance to breathe fresh air, hang out with friends and have staff available to encourage and nurture their creativity.
Each day, JP strives towards providing a blend of choices from our hands on, activity-oriented curriculum. These choices are based on the ingenious planning of creative, qualified staff that loves to have fun. This planning not only allows teacher-directed opportunities, but also allows for open ended activities which encourage children to explore on their own and/or have input in enhancing our curriculum.
We strive to create a community of friends who respect our space and materials, help create the rules, and respect each other, the staff, their families and themselves. We seek to incorporate the following into our curriculum: caring for one another, non-violent conflict resolution, community service, self –expression, esteem building and making positive choices.
AN AFTERNOON AT JAMES PLACE
Did you ever wonder what your child does when he/she arrives at James Place each day?
When the children arrive in the afternoon, staff is waiting outside at the bus stop to greet them. The staff is prepared and knows who to expect off of the bus due to use of our bus card system. When the children get inside, they secure their belongings in their cubby and then head to the kitchen to wash their hands for snack. Snack is provided in the afternoon on regular school days and is provided in the morning and afternoon on full days such as snow days or school vacations.
After snack, we try to bring the entire group outside if the weather allows. During outdoor playtime, free play activities are offered along with staff organized group games such as “All the Fishies in the Sea” or Four Square.
If we do not go outside, the children are offered several choices of indoor activities. These include legos, blocks, card games, table games, reading, pretend, arts, crafts, and more. Frequently, the staff switches the materials and games used by the children to keep them busy and interested. Occasionally, our computers are opened for the children to access our child friendly computer games. Also, if we do not go outside, homework help may be available. There is a designated homework area sectioned off in the backside of the room where a staff person is available to help the children with homework.
Before long, it is parent pick-up time!
