James Place provides consistent, quality child care to children in kindergarten through age thirteen during out-of-school time. As a respected resource in our community, we work diligently with the families of our program along with the schools and other social service agencies to address the individual needs of each child and to assure the children in our care receive consistent care strategies in their home, school and out-of-school environments. We pride ourselves to be a “neighborhood without streets”.
If you have any questions about our program, please contact us anytime! We look forward to hearing from you.

UPDATE 8/17/20
The Amesbury Public Schools have announced that they will reopen on September 15th with a remote learning model. The James Place program directors are working with our Board of Directors to try to develop a plan to make remote learning work at James Place while remaining in compliance with our reopening regulations. There is no simple solution in this circumstance but we are working hard to see what we can do! You will hear from us again soon!
UPDATE 8/4/20
As we await updates, we want you to know that we are working toward program reopening by gathering required PPE and program supplies along with reviewing the most recently updated regulations.
We are currently trying to develop plans for reopening in the fall. As announced yesterday, the new start date for Amesbury Public Schools will be September 15, 2020. Although a final vote has not happened yet, it appears that they are leaning towards starting the upcoming school year with remote learning. That means that things may be a bit different for James Place. We want to make a plan for reopening that will accommodate the needs of the families in our program.
It is very likely that we may make some changes to adjust to meet different child care needs and comply with new regulations related to COVID-19. We may have to adjust our hours and/or offer part day and full day child care options. We are researching new options to make WiFi available for remote learning capability. (Did you know that a couple of our program staff have teaching degrees? So, we are happy to help!) There are so many unknowns but many possibilities as well!
As we try to plan, we need some input from parents/guardians regarding current child care needs. We know that all families are facing different challenges and circumstances because of the pandemic so we really need to figure out what child care needs are at this time. Here are a few questions to help us try to develop reopening plans:
If the school year begins with remote learning…
1. Will you need child care?
2. If yes, please let us know what days of the week and times are needed.
Example – I need child care Monday through Friday 8:30AM-3PM
3. If yes, will your child complete their school work at James Place on a parent supplied device?
If so, will they use a device that will require WiFi?
If the school year begins with in school learning…
1. Will you need child care?
2. If yes, do you need before school and/or after school care? What is your approximate drop-off time for before school care? What is your approximate pick-up time from after school care?
We appreciate your input in helping us determine the needs of the families in our program! If you do need care, please reach out to us about registration if you have not done so already.
We will continue to update you as updates are available to us! If you receive any updates or have any questions, please reach out to us. We look forward to hearing from you and appreciate your prompt response in working toward our reopening plan.
UPDATE 7/2020
As we await updates from our licensor and the plan for schooling in the fall, we wanted to reach out to let you know about some changes to our program registration for this year. Because of the unpredictable nature of this pandemic, we have decreased our registration fee for the upcoming school year to $25 and have made the fee refundable. We have made these changes with hopes that it may help families plan for child care while leaving some flexibility in these uncertain times without losing your registration fee. We understand that many families are faced with different stresses and financial hardships that this pandemic has caused. We hope that your family is staying well and we want you to know that we are here to help if you need it! If you have any questions, please email us at jamesplaceng@yahoo.com or call us on the James Place cell phone at 978-270-3256. Also, if you have already paid registration fees for this upcoming period, your account will be adjusted to reflect the discounted registration fee. We hope to hear from you soon!
UPDATE 6/2020
For the first time since 1994, James Place will not be open for summer camp. We look forward to opening in the fall and will provide updates as we get them on how that will work. This decision was a difficult one but with less than a handful of children who need summer care along with the challenges imposed by the new regulations, it is just not possible at this time. We are hopeful that things will continue to improve throughout the summer and that regulations will be eased so we can return to some sense of normalcy in the fall. We will keep you updated as we get information and encourage you to stay in touch with us too. We really miss the kiddos! This pandemic has posed many challenges for everyone and we hope you are staying well. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help!
April 21, 2020
Governor Baker made an announcement this afternoon that Massachusetts schools will continue with remote learning and the schools will not reopen for the remainder of this school year. Additionally, he announced that child care programs must remain closed until June 29th. We will have registration papers for summer camp and next school year available within the next few days so we can all have plans in place when we can reopen.
We are all weathering the same storm, but we are not all in the same boat. We know this time is difficult in so many ways. If there is anything we can do to help, please let us know.

March 27, 2020
Hello families!
We hope that you all are staying safe and healthy during this time. We have been working to develop a plan that will work for all of us. We understand that many parents and guardians are laid off or unemployed and are uncertain if and when they may return to work. This is such a trying time for everyone, particularly financially.
In such uncertain times, we would like to offer a few options regarding your tuition payment to us. We understand that not everyone is in a financial position to continue to make payments to James Place when our program is closed. At the same time, regardless of this unusual circumstance, our non-profit program still has financial obligations that need to be met to ensure that we can reopen when it is safe to do so (possibly May 4th). There is no easy solution that is fair for all. We feel that offering the following options is the best way to try to make this work for everyone.
Here are the options:
1. Pay what you can afford to help us try to meet some of our financial obligations
2. We can hold your childcare slot/s without charge while we are closed
We truly appreciate your understanding in this unprecedented time! We welcome you to reach out with any questions, comments or concerns by email at jamesplaceng@yahoo.com or by messenger through James Place’s facebook page. We would love to hear from you even if it is just to say hello! Stay healthy and safe. We hope to hear from you! We are working on a plan for registration and will reach out again soon!
Respectfully,
James Place Board of Directors
